WESTLAKE THUNDER

12th MAN

The 12th man or 12th player is a term used to describe the fans within a stadium during football games.  Since most football leagues allow a maximum of eleven players per team on the playing field at a time, the term denotes the attempt of a team's fans to help their team.  In American football, the term originated with Texas A&M University in 1922. 

The presence of fans can have a profound impact on how the teams perform.  Each team's fans would like to see their team win the game.  Fans will often create loud sounds or chant in hopes of distracting and confusing the opposing team while they have possession of the ball; or to persuade a referee to make a favorable decision. Noises are made by shouting, whistling, stomping and various other techniques. 

In 2010, Coach Walker retired the #12 jersey to honor the dedication of Westlake fans.  Afterall, we are LOUD, PROUD and HIGHLY SPIRITED!!!  We have always had a great fan base at every game... whether we are at home or on the road.  Let's not give Mountain Crest the home field advantage...  BE THERE!  BE THAT 12th Man!!!

Friday night is Senior Night. All senior moms will wear their son's white jerseys to the game.  Meet at the field gate (south end) at 6:30 pm. DO NOT BE LATE!!  If your son has two sets of parents... all are welcome.
We will have the Senior Recognition after the game. Meet at the field gate 3 minutes before the end of 4th quarter to be escorted onto the field.

Please bring newspapers, markers, glue, glue guns, tape, post boards, decorations and whatever you need to make your signs and banners. The school will provide butcher paper and paints.

Please come and support our team at the Skyline game this Friday.  Its an important game for us as it will determine our standing in the region and playoffs.  Skyline will be a tough game and they have the home field advantage.  Let's show our THUNDER that home field or NOT... we have their backs!  WE ARE THEIR 12th MAN ON THAT FIELD!!!  GO THUNDER!!!

Thank you all for supporting the PINK game!!  Many of you purchased the PINK game shirts to benefit the CURE and most of you wore your own PINK proudly.  Our boys did a great job and played a grreat game...the score was 40-6 with Murray scoring in the last few seconds of the game.
